How is beard transplant performed?

Beard transplants are performed under local anesthesia by Turkish aesthetic surgeons mostly to treat bald patches in the beard mostly due to alopecia. The duration of beard transplant depends on many factors but the operation usually takes 4 to 7 hrs. Your surgeon uses a pen to mark the transplant area to be corrected and the donor site where hair grafts to be extracted for beard transplantation. Then, your surgeon transplants them into the incisions on the transplanted area which are opened with sapphire blades after harvesting individual hair follicles.

How many grafts are required for beard transplant?

The number of grafts needed varies for facial hair depending on whether the FUE or DHI technique is chosen, the size of your donor area and bald area, the number of hair follicles in each graft, and the beard style you desire. On average, the required number of grafts ranges from 800 to 3000. Please note: if you have unhealthy facial hair growth, we may need to combine beard transplant Turkey with other treatments such as Minoxidil and PRP.

How long does it take for beard transplant to heal?

During the first week, you need to protect your face from:

  • heat,
  • cold,
  • external interventions,
  • chemical products.

Your newly transplanted beard will be very sensitive during this time. You should avoid scratching or frequently touching your hair strands. Avoid intense exercise and heavy activities in the first week that could risk your surgery. Drink plenty of water and rest.

  • First month: The small incisions will scab over and flake off over time. You may experience “shock loss”. Do not panic, thinking you’ve lost all your beard; this is a temporary and natural process.
  • Second to third months: Your new and dense beard will start to grow. But, your beards will still be in the early stages of the hair growth cycle.

Fourth to fifth months: You need to be patient until this time to see the best results. Please, do not skip your post-op consultations during this period.

Can you shave your beard after transplant?

While it will not be a problem to shave your beard after 3 weeks, please contact the medical team for your first shave so that your progress can be properly monitored and risk avoided. Everyone’s body reacts differently to beard hair transplant surgery. As the recovery period can vary from person to person, it is beneficial to keep in touch. Avoidance of smoking, alcohol, stress and unhealthy fatty foods can speed up your healing process.

How to shave beard after transplant?

Beard grafts become progressively more stable after 2 weeks of beard transplant in Turkey. That’s the point where your transplanted hair follicles become to heal and where you can really go back to your hair care routine. Once you are sure that all scabs have disappeared, you can go slower and gentler with your first shave. Treat your face more gently until the healing process after beard transplant surgery is complete.
